Refuse to be Regular

When I was growing up, I was that kid that didn’t have an answer when folks said, “what do you want to be when you grow up?” I never knew what to say. I felt if I said one thing, that would limit me. Choosing one thing would box me in. I was afraid of that box. So, years multiplied and the sentiment of my 12-year-old self has persisted some 20 years year later. I’m not sure all God has for me, but I don’t just don’t want to be REGULAR. You shouldn't either!

What does that mean exactly?!

I found the answer one day during my personal prayer time. Refusing to be regular means that"  “IT’S TIME TO ASSASSINATE THE SPIRIT OF AVERAGE!” Your assignment is not in alignment with average. It never was, it never will be!

Take an inventory. In what areas do you know you can do more, be more?

So I challenge you like I do my 10-year-old son. He’s a sports fanatic so most of my lessons to him contain sports analogies. When he is frustrated with a task at hand and simply want to become better, I often tell him it's not rocket science. Like him, you must simply follow the road less traveled. In order for MJ, or Kobe, or Stephen or Lebron to be greats in their own right, they had to practice while everyone else was sleeping or enjoying their friends. Their greatness involved sacrifice. The only difference between the greats and the average is discipline. These guys disciplined themselves to become the best in the sport. They practiced daily and even several times a day.

What do you practice daily, intentionally? In a culture where social media is sneakily killing hours of our day, we must make a commitment to do what we need to do to not be average.

Now, I know, this message is not for everyone. We need some average people in the world to balance things out. Everybody can’t be great, but it might as well be YOU!
